What To Pack For A Trip To Cairns

(Cairns in June: temperatures between 18 – 25 degrees Celsius, rain is unlikely)

Beach/Outdoor Gear: While there is no swimming beach in Cairns itself, there's a lagoon with a man-made beach. Most hotels have a swimming pool, so bring your beach towel and swimmers! Also whatever you'd wear on a warm summer day, such as a hat and light clothing.

Swimmers (Togs, budgie smugglers, bikinis, cossie, board shorts) - whatever your 'swimsuit' of your choice make sure it's in your bag whenever you go anywhere around Cairns. There are incredible waterfalls, waterholes and beaches all over the area.Capture3

Sunscreen -– While the temperatures in June are relatively mild, the Australian sun is strong and you can still burn quickly. (Sunburn is not fun, - it's extremely painful).

So 'Slip, Slop, Slap!' (Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat!).

A towel or sarong

Correct footwear – Flip Flops, or sandals, and a pair of trainers or sneakers so you have closed-toed shoes for any outdoor activities.

Insect repellent

Photo Equipment: Maybe an underwater camera, but you can always buy that in Cairns.

Conference and program specific clothing: Smart casual (appropriate for warm, tropical climate, but the conference centre itself is fully air-conditioned)

Evening clothing: some longer, warmer clothing for wearing in the evenings

Passport/Travel documents

Chargers for all your electronics & power adaptors for AU plug:Capture

AUD (Australian Dollars), but local currency exchanges are also available

Cairns Kids Activities- Keeping our Kids Inspired and Active

This website provides extensive information on indoor and outdoor activities. They are grouped according to the location, price, age groups, weather, and your family’s mobility. The website is easy to use and Cairns Convention centre is easily visible on the map as a reference point.

Muddy’s Playground
“Muddy's Playground features so many fun activities for children; it is touted as being one of the best playgrounds in Australia.
The playground is divided into three distinct sections with each one containing equipment and activities geared towards specific age groups. While the playground as a whole is generally more suitable for children aged 10 and under, older children often enjoy playing there too.
Muddy's Playground has a large café and seating area conveniently located in the middle of the playground or there are BBQ and picnic table facilities located close by. While children have a great time at Muddy's Playground, there are plenty of nearby spots in the shade for parents to relax.”
